With the circuit breaker measures being gradually relaxed, we are of two minds, torn between staying at home as much as we can to stop the spread and FINALLY getting back out there to visit our favorite evening venues across the city. I don’t know about you, but we have maybe mixed one too many G&Ts lately, and let’s be honest, we could all probably do with a change of scenery!
Hi, I’m Simin, and together with my husband Rick, we founded Paper Lantern Distilling in 2013. We live in Singapore with our three kids, and I spend my days and nights working as the Paper Lantern CEO. Being in this industry, I know how tough these last few months have been for everyone working in the F&B sector, and I’m sure we could all use a drink! As we get closer to reopening, I find myself thinking about those fantastic spots I can’t wait to visit to order that drink. I thought I would share that list with you, so we can all head out in support as soon as it’s allowed again.
With its quirky interiors and fun live music, we miss putting on our dancing shoes for Thursday Latin music sessions with the Havana Social Club. One of the best late-night venues in Singapore, Lulu’s also has a great drinks menu. Their Signature Gin & Tonic menu is one not-to-miss.
Simin Recommends: Chili Specialty G&T (but don’t eat the red pepper garnish unless you are ready for a sweltering night)
We love the French/Tropical look as a backdrop to our coffee and drinks meetings. Home delivery is always an option, but what we are really craving is some “me-time” away from the craziness of the house.
Simin Recommends: Just about anything from the brunch menu
I find that this iconic bar has one of the best views of Marina Bay, and I always enjoy taking friends and family from abroad here for a drink (or two) at sunset.
Simin recommends: Coffee Negroni (Ciao Michele!). The brilliant duo at Le Cocktail Connoisseur visited Mo Bar last year; watch Michele’s technique for making the cocktail here.
Club Street is hardly a secret destination, but we still enjoy visiting the Screening Room because of its unique concept and breezy rooftop feels.
Simin recommends: The Gimlet – a beautifully executed classic
Perched atop the National Museum with 180 views of the Padang and Marina Bay area, Smoke and Mirrors is one of those bars that is perfect for both sundowners and late-night tipples. Or even better, why not both? Start at sundown and ride out the whole night in style.
Simin Recommends: Robbery At The Museum. Voted one of the best cocktails in the world by Time-Out Magazine, this fabulous creation is Smoke & Mirrors’ take on the timeless classic, the Singapore Sling.
See you soon!
